Village of Rhinebeck

Distance to NYC: 108 miles
Area: 2 square miles

The Rhinebeck area was founded in 1686. The Village is one of the few remaining in the Mid-Hudson region. Rhinebeck is part of one of the largest historic districts in the United States. People can and do walk to school, church, the market, the hospital, restaurants or just sit on a village bench and watch traffic and tourists go by. You can visit the Farmer's Market on Sundays and purchase fresh flowers, produce, home canned delicacies and much more. The market has become a gathering place for many residents and visitors.

The Village thrives on its service to visitors and residents, highlighted by the many and varied restaurants and quaint shops. It is home to the Beekman Arms (the oldest operating Inn in America), Foster's Coach House (old stage coach stop) and Upstate Films (classic and the finest of international films.)

The Village of Rhinebeck has retained its beauty and historical appeal with tree-lined streets, an abundance of antique homes and lovely store fronts.

The Rhinebeck Post Office was constructed by President Franklin Roosevelt and is outstanding. It has a stone exterior, very deep window sills and beautiful hand painted murals by Olin Dows on the walls.

The Village is within 2 hours from NYC and is accessible via the Taconic Parkway, NYS Thruway or AMTRAK. Northern Dutchess Hospital is located in Rhinebeck.

Educational Facilities
Students that live in the Village attend the Rhinebeck Central School System which is located within walking distance. The system consists of three schools: Rhinebeck High School, Bulkeley Middle Schools and Chancellor Livingston Elementary School.

The Astor Learning Center is also in the village.

The Culinary Institute of America, Bard College and Marist College are close by.

Recreational Facilities
The Lion's Club Mini Park has a trout stream on the edge where the Landsmankill Fishing Contest is held for children every year. There is also a very nice playground and gazebo. The Landsmankill flows into Crystal Lake where there is a water fall and picnic tables. The Town Recreation Park is adjacent to the Starr Library and offers swimming, tennis, ballfields, playground and picnic tables. The Dutchess County Fairgrounds is a popular spot for visitors to enjoy seasonal events, crafts and antique sales, car shows, and the popular Dutchess County Fair.

Houses of Worship
Include Roman Catholic, Dutch Reformed, Lutheran, Methodist, Episcopal and Baptist. There is also easy access to most all dominations.
